This sample lesson plan and sample assignment are designed for a lower-level undergraduate course in global studies, history of consumption, transatlantic history, marketing, etc.

The introductory lesson is intended as a way to introduce or reinforce students’ knowledge of how to conduct an effective survey, including the formulation of questions and the evaluation of results. It will also be helpful if students are somewhat familiar with marketing and advertising techniques.

The assignment will then allow students to make use of these survey techniques while exploring the use of the label ‘European’ by companies and brands in the mid-twentieth century and today.
