Friedrich Lenger is a Professor of History at the University of Giessen, where he also works with the Center for Media and Interactivity (Zentrum für Medien und Interaktivität – ZMI). His previous research and teaching appointments included a fellowship at the St. Antony’s College in Oxford, and the Konrad Adenauer Professorship at the Center for German and European Studies at Georgetown University.

Friedrich Lenger is a Professor of History at the University of Giessen, where he also works with the Center for Media and Interactivity (Zentrum für Medien und Interaktivität – ZMI).  His previous research and teaching appointments included a fellowship at the St. Antony’s College in Oxford, and the Konrad Adenauer Professorship at the Center for German and European Studies at Georgetown University.  Prof. Lenger earned his M.A. at the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. at the University of Dusseldorf.  Many of his recent publications have focused on urbanization and the development of the modern city in the United States and Europe as well as on the role of the media in shaping public memory.  His most recent publications include the edited volumes Die europäische und die amerikanische Stadt (Berlin, 2007) and Die europäische Stadt im 20. Jahrhundert. Wahrnehmung – Entwicklung – Erosion (with Klaus Tenfelde) (Cologne, 2006).
