Walter Allner Lecture, 1983
Lecture for the 'Coming of Age - First Symposium on the History of Graphic Design' at RIT
The “First Symposium on the History of Graphic Design – Coming of Age” was held in 1983 at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY to discuss the history of a discipline that straddles the line between art and industry. Among the diverse group of speakers at the conference was the well known graphic designer, Walter Allner. In this paper, Allner looks back at the many teachers that influenced him, including Josef Alber, Joost Schmidt and Hannes Meyer from the Bauhaus, Dr. Otto Neurath at the Vienna Gesellschafts und Wissenschaftsmuseum and Piet Zwart of the Netherlands.
