The German Historical Institute is seeking a part-time research assistant (20 hours per week) for Transatlantic Perspectives: Europe in the Eyes of European Immigrants to the United States, 1940-1980.

The assistant will independently manage project administration, support scholarly research, and maintain the project website (www.transatlanticperspectives.org).

The assistant will be responsible for administrative tasks, as well as planning, coordinating and preparing meetings, appointments, and trips. He/she will prepare presentation materials, proofread texts for academic publication, and be involved in event management. The successful candidate will be fluent in German and English and able to handle correspondence and conversations in both languages.  Strong writing and editing skills are essential, and experience with budgeting and grant management is preferred.

The assistant will have experience in administrative work. He/she must be able to manage multiple tasks and have an understanding of academic research. A bachelor’s degree in the humanities, social sciences, or economics is a plus. Computer proficiency with a good working knowledge of the internet, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook is a must. Experience with web-based content management systems is preferred.

The successful candidate will be a team player who is nonetheless accustomed to working independently. He/she will able to organize his/her own work efficiently and will be both flexible and dependable.
