Conference Presentation by Andreas Joch
Andreas Joch presented research from his project at the annual conference of the American Historical Association in Chicago, Illinois, January 5-8, 2012.
Joch’s paper was titled “Transatlantic Planning Networks: European Migrants and the Shaping of Urban Spaces in the Postwar Period” and focused on the role of émigré urban planner Victor Gruen in the planned adaptation of American-style pre-fabricated homes in postwar Vienna.
The panel “Communities of Consumers? Social-Democratic Spaces in the Age of Postwar Mass Consumption ” was sponsored by the German Historical Institute, Washington DC. Other panelists included David Kuchenbuch (Giessen) and Annemarie Sammartino (Oberlin). Jan Logemann (GHI) gave the comment and Lizabeth Cohen (Harvard) was the moderator.
